What is The First Nations Infrastructure Resilience Toolkit?

The First Nations Infrastructure Resilience Toolkit (FN-IRT, or the Toolkit) helps First Nation communities assess the vulnerability of their infrastructure, buildings, and facilities due to extreme weather and manage those risks in a lifecycle context. The Toolkit also helps First Nations develop and implement sound asset management practices to forecast capital replacement and operations and maintenance (O&M) investment needs over the useful l fe of their assets. T his enables them to maximize the benefits of their investments, while maintaining or improving levels of service.

The Toolkit is comprised of three modules that were developed based on current best practices and industry standards.

Module 1

Data Structure and Source
Inventory & condition information as well as service Life, replacement value, and climate data.

Module 2

Climate Risk Assessments
The process of finding relevant climate parameters and built environment exposure and vulnerability risks. This also includes mitigation and adaptation recommendations.

Module 3

Asset Management Plan (AMP)
Calculating and reporting demand (Current/Future), needs (O&M, Capital) and levels of service.

Asset Management Program - Indigenous Services Canada

The asset management program is an initiative to help First Nations communities manage their infrastructure in a more sustainable way. It allows communities to proactively manage their assets.
